Matronas was founded by Aracely Rúa Cortes in 2021. As a native Colombian from the coastal Pacific region of the country, her passion and abilities as a designer take root in the rich and colorful cultural heritage of its Afro-Colombian and indigenous inhabitants.
The word “matronas” carries a very important meaning for Aracely and the Colombian culture as a whole, where the head of the family is commonly a female role.
matrona (noun): single mother, head of family; name gives tribute to the matriarchal (motherly) role in society, commonly a descriptor for a strong woman who leads her family and culture as the giver of life and the sole heir responsible for the wellbeing of her children and grandchildren.

We are dedicated to producing ethnic-inspired clothes and accessories by medium of incorporating new and recycled material goods – our products find their origin in the creative expressions evoked from the unique and diverse cultures of the world. All our products are hand-made with love, care, and the mission to open the eyes of our community through sustainable and responsible consumption.
